Healthy Peninsula welcomes new healthy aging coordinator

Lori Johnson has joined the staff at Healthy Peninsula as the new coordinator for the Healthy Aging Initiative. Johnson has a 25-year history of working in the social services sector and brings almost six years of experience as the Patient Care Services Manager at Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County.

According to a press release, she will use her expertise in organizational collaboration, supervising volunteers, community outreach and advocacy as she steps into the lead role of the Age-Friendly Coastal Communities Partnership developed by Healthy Peninsula in coordination with AARP in 2016.

AFCC is a community partnership—with more than 30 local and regional social service, medical and community organizations, and municipal governments—in the nine towns on the Blue Hill Peninsula and on Deer Isle. AFCC addresses the “Eight Domains of Livability” in this rural part of Maine that include housing and food security, transportation, access to health care, access to information and resources and community social supports.

Johnson will also help implement Healthy Peninsula’s collaborative direct service projects:

Delivery of the Commodity Supplemental Food Program boxes (in partnership with Eastern Area Agency on Aging)

Co-hosting the weekly Walk-in Café in Blue Hill (in partnership with Healthy Peninsula’s Lifelong Maine AmeriCorps members, Friends in Action, the First Congregational Church of Blue Hill, and Blue Hill Heritage Trust)

Coordinating Bridging Neighbors (in partnership with Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital, Island Health & Wellness Foundation, and Healthy Island Project).
