Yu & I to peform concert Feb. 12
On Sunday, February 12, the Blue Hill Concert Association will present duo Yu & I at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Blue Hill, the second in a series of four concerts planned for its 2023 season.
Winners of Beverly Hills National Auditions, YuEun Kim and Ines Thomé met in 2013 when they both moved to the United States, Kim from South Korea and Thomé from Germany, finding themselves as housemates in Los Angeles where both were studying at USC’s Thornton School of Music, according to a press release.
Kim received degrees from Seoul National University. Her passion is chamber music. She has performed at chamber music festivals around the country and, in 2017, performed Beethoven’s complete violin sonatas over three concerts.
Thomé is a multifaceted musician who has performed internationally as a solo and chamber musician. She plays the electric guitar, lute, theorbo, baroque guitar, banjo and mandolin and has a master’s degree from Stuttgart State University of Music and Performing Arts.
The duo’s debut album, “A Journey with Yu & I,” features folk-inspired music from around the world, including music from their home countries.
This program features a diverse selection of music pairing the violin and guitar with the rhythms of Bartok’s Romanian Folk Dances, Italian melodies of Paganini, folk songs from Germany, Korea and the U.S. and the tangos of Piazzola’s Argentina.
Tickets are available at bluehillconcertassociation.org. Those under 21 may attend free.
