Hungry for Health 2020 supports healthy aging

September is Healthy Aging Month, and Healthy Acadia has a new twist to its annual Hungry for Health campaign which has featured fundraisers at various restaurants in past years. This year Healthy Acadia has partnered with 11 restaurants and businesses from across Washington and Hancock counties to create a cookbook.

Throughout September, Healthy Acadia will be fundraising to support healthy aging services, and all donors will receive an electronic or hard copy of the Downeast Hungry for Health 2020 Cookbook, depending on giving level. The cookbook features recipes from Acadia Provisions, El El Frijoles, Expressions Floral, Bakery & Gifts, Galyn’s Restaurant, Glenn’s Place, Peekytoe Provisions, Raye’s Mustard, Rooster Brother, Warren’s Waterfront, Water Street Inn & Tavern, and Whole Life Market.

In addition, every Wednesday in September, Healthy Acadia will offer free online wellness sessions for better health: “Detox Your Home” on September 9, a cooking demonstration on September 16, Qigong on September 23, and home-based skin care on September 30. Sessions will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Zoom. For information on how to join, email Sara Willett at sara.willett@healthyacadia.org or call 667-7171, ext. 221, or follow Healthy Acadia on Facebook.

In the last year, over 2,000 older adults in Hancock and Washington counties have benefited from Healthy Acadia’s Healthy Aging programming and services. Those interested may give online at healthyacadia.org/donate or send a check to Healthy Acadia, 140 State St., Ellsworth, 04605. Indicate “Healthy Aging” in the notes section or memo.
