A note to our communities, organized by state Rep. Genevieve McDonald:

We know that most of you have now heard the news about the outbreak of COVID-19 at the Island Nursing Home. Many of us have a connection to INH. We either know someone who works there, who lives there, who volunteers there, or who delivers supplies to staff and residents.

Because of the seriousness of the situation and because of the important service INH provides for our whole region, we wanted to join together as community leaders to let you all know that we are working together across our different roles to get this outbreak under control, to keep each of you well informed about what’s going on, and to save lives and keep all of us safe and healthy.

To be sure, this is a difficult moment, but we can and will get through it together. We are all grateful to the Island Nursing Home administrators, staff and board for their work and sacrifice as they act quickly to adapt to new and challenging circumstances. Additionally, we are carrying the residents of INH and all of their loved ones in our hearts, and we hope for swift recoveries for everyone with COVID-19. As the director for the Maine Center for Disease Control, Dr. Nirav Shah, often says, each is more than just a number—it is a person with a family who cares about them.

Going forward, we will continue to collaborate with each other in our response to this outbreak. Whether we are your state and municipal leaders, your community health organizations, your INH team, your local medical professionals, your children’s educators and caretakers, or anyone else involved in this effort, we won’t stop working until we get beyond this outbreak.

Please stay safe, healthy and kind as we meet this challenge together.
