Annual ball to benefit women’s healthcare

Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital and presenting sponsor Machias Savings Bank invite the community to jump on board the Poinsettia Ball Express to benefit women’s healthcare on December 1 at the Ramada Inn in Ellsworth.

This year’s ball draws inspiration from the golden age of train travel, when passengers moved from town to town across Maine and beyond on the rails. Red poinsettias will adorn the signature 16-foot tree that’s a centerpiece of the event. A buffet dinner prepared by Chipper’s Restaurant and Catering will be followed by the Larry Williams Band, a Maine-based dance band “known for getting people moving on the dancefloor,” according to a news release.

Like the inaugural Poinsettia Ball held in 1992, proceeds from this year’s event will benefit obstetrics and maternity care at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital, formerly known as Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. Funds raised will be used to improve patient comfort, convenience, and safety.

More than $860,000 has been raised at the Poinsettia Ball over the years, with every dollar staying in the community to support patient care at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital.

Machias Savings Bank has been a partner of the Poinsettia Ball since its inception. Contributing more than $120,000 over the ball’s 27-year history, the bank has been a catalyst for community wellness.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available. To sign up to sponsor the event or to purchase a ticket, visit northernlighthealth.org/poinsettia. To learn more about volunteer opportunities at the ball, call 664-5548.
