WERU wins broadcasters award
WERU Community Radio (89.9 Blue Hill, 99.9 Bangor and weru.org) has won the 2018 Maine Association of Broadcasters First Place Award for Public Affairs for the radio program, the Democracy Forum.
Democracy Forum is WERU’s monthly public affairs program that presents engaging topics in participatory democracy (every third Friday, 10-11 a.m., the program is a collaboration of WERU and League of Women Voters of Maine - Downeast).
The winning installment of the Democracy Forum is entitled “Immigration: Can We Live Without It?” This program explores the positive impact that immigration has on economic development and workplace Maine; audiences can listen by visitng archives.weru.org. According to a news release, this is the second year in a row that WERU has been recognized for excellence with regards to a program on immigration in Maine. This year’s award was presented at the annual MAB Awards Banquet on September 22 in Augusta.
WERU Community Radio is an independent, noncommercial, educational media organization. Its mission is to engage with the community to provide diverse music, entertainment and alternative news and public affairs programming, with emphasis on local people, issues and cultures.
