Castine Inn to host antiques shop

This summer the Castine Inn will play hostess to a different sort of visitor than its usual Maine coast explorer, according to a news release.

In the parlor and at the bar, summer resident Jordan Richards will open a seasonal pop-up antiques shop, Antiques at the Inn. Guests at the Inn, residents of Castine, and town visitors alike will be able to shop for antique linens, silver, ceramics, decorative objects such as photo frames, trays, bar accessories, lamps, mirrors, art work, and furniture.

Antiques at the Inn will provide a source for gifts, treasures to take home as a keepsake from a special vacation, as well as unique decorations for any summer residence. Each inventory item has been personally selected by the owner at auction, estate sale or antique store—to be sure no two pieces are the same. Shoppers will notice a preponderance of historical ceramics, from whimsical Victorian majolicas to fine 19th century Paris porcelains. As the daughter of a potter who was raised in the midst of kilns and wheels, Richards has developed an appreciation of ceramics of all different styles and eras. And through her work at auction houses and doing appraisals, she has honed this niche interest. She is eager to share her enthusiasm about the way people once created beauty in the objects they used for everyday living.

Store hours are whenever the inn is open; sales may be made at the hotel registration desk, by Richards during the middle of the day or by appointment. An opening reception will be held on July 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. Direct inquiries to Richards at; view the inventory at or call 703-346-5085.
