Training ship State of Maine to visit Eastport

The Maine Maritime Academy training ship, State of Maine, will make a stopover in Eastport on Thursday, July 12.

The visit is made possible by the Eastport Port Authority, Captain Robert J. Peacock II (MMA Board of Trustees and Alumnus) and Captain Gerald Morrison (MMA Alumnus), the July 4th Committee, the City of Eastport, the Eastport Chamber of Commerce/Passenger Ship Committee and Federal Marine Terminals.

The State of Maine will set sail from Eastport at approximately 6 p.m., heading for Searsport and then on to its home port of Castine, and is set to arrive Saturday, July 14. Under the command of Captain Leslie B. Eadie, III, Master, the training cruise departed Castine on May 10 with 238 students and 52 faculty, officers, crew members and personnel to visit European ports as part of the college’s annual training voyage. This year’s itinerary included Cadiz, Spain; Rotterdam, Netherlands; Lisbon, Portugal; Civitavecchia, Italy; and Alicante, Spain.

The fourth vessel to bear the name State of Maine, the ship is a modern, technologically-advanced training vessel. For more information, call MMA at 326-4311 or visit mainemaritime.edu.
