Celebrate the season with two days of Holiday Hoopla
The holidays are upon us and Stonington is once again getting ready to deck the halls. On the weekend of December 8-9, the town will come together to celebrate the season with the fourth annual Holiday Hoopla, two days of events for the whole family, hosted by several organizations across the island.
On Saturday, December 8, from 8 to 11 a.m., the weekend will kick off at the Island Community Center with a special breakfast with Santa, co-hosted by the Deer Isle-Stonington After School Program. Be sure to call to reserve a time at the breakfast: 367-2735.
At 1 p.m., the Stonington Opera House Lobby will host a family-friendly series of events, including pictures with Santa, theatre games and holiday cookie decorating by Edible Island. Then at 2 p.m., the Opera House Arts will offer the 30-minute holiday film Shrek the Halls for free. Attendees will also receive free popcorn.
The fun will continue on Sunday, December 9, at 4 p.m. on Stonington’s Hagen Dock with caroling led by Beth Kyzer and John Lincoln of Deer Isle Stonington Schools and the Reach Performing Arts Center, and then a magical outdoor tree lighting. At 5 p.m., families are invited back to the Stonington Public Library for a Candy Cane Social, with stories, cookies, and cocoa.
“It’s a wonderful family event, and the library is delighted to take part in hosting it,” said Vicki Zelnick, Director of the Stonington Public Library, in a news release.
This event is created in partnership with the Island Community Center, Town of Stonington, Edible Island, Stonington Public Library, Reach Performing Arts Center, Deer Isle-Stonington Schools, Deer Isle-Stonington After School Program, and Opera House Arts.
