Castine to hold first-ever Pumpkin Festival

The Town of Castine has announced its first Pumpkin Festival, which is expected to be an annual event. The festival will be held on Saturday, October 18, and will commence with a Pumpkin Pancake breakfast starting at 8 a.m. at the Trinitarian Congregational Church on Main Street. Pumpkin-themed games, crafts and other events will begin 10 a.m. and continue through 6 p.m. Events will be held at various locations throughout Castine including, but not limited to, the Town Dock, Water Street, Main Street and Fort George.

The Pumpkin Festival is an all-ages event with activities sponsored by all facets of the Castine community, according to organizers. While the event is still in the planning stages, activities currently slated to occur include a Pumpkin Cook-off, Pumpkin Decorating, Beer Garten, Pumpkin Roll, Pumpkin Propel, Hayrides, Pumpkin Race, Antique Car Show, Golf Pitch and Putt, music and more. Admission is free for children 12 and under and a fee will be charged for those 13 and older.

The Castine Pumpkin Festival will be the concluding event of the Blue Hill Peninsula’s Foliage, Food and Wine Festival that kicks off on October 12 with its ninth Annual “A Taste of the Peninsula.” “Castine is proud to be a part of this larger, peninsula-wide event and looks forward to attendance from the entire peninsula and beyond,” a press release notes.
