New Surry Theatre brings an American classic to life on the Blue Hill Town Hall stage, beginning Friday, May 9. The NST will perform John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. An incredibly moving story lighting the dark side of the American Dream during the Depression, Of Mice and Men follows two drifters dreaming of one last chance to make things right, according to a news release from NST.

George, (Bryan Lescord), the feisty dreamer, tries to look after Lennie (Michael MacFarland), the man-child who lives in a land of perennial mental twilight. It’s during the Great Depression and men are willing to do soul-shattering labor for about a dollar a day, paid monthly, and be grateful for the bug-infested mattresses they sleep on and the slop they’re fed for food.

Michael Reichgott directs Steinbeck’s classic. The cast is rounded out by actors Carl Karush, Peter Coleman, Nina Robinson-Poole, Jeff Brink, Jim Fisher, Charlie Marbach, Willem Hilliard and Matt Murphy.

Performances are at the Blue Hill Town Hall Theater May 9-10, 16-17 and 23-25 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. Reserve tickets by emailing, or calling 200-4720. There will be a reception after the matinee on May 18 at the Blue Hill Inn. There will be a special, free of charge performance for the Blue Hill Schools on Monday, May 19, at 9:30 a.m.
