Bomb scare empties MMA dormitory
by Anne Berleant
The Maine State Police Bomb Squad responded to reports of a suspicious package at Maine Maritime Academy on April 29.
“It had some of the components that a bomb would have,” said Jennifer DeJoy, Director of College Relations. “But it was not an explosive device.”
The package was discovered in the Curtis Hall dormitory in the late afternoon during the routine check-out of a room being vacated for the summer.
Academy officials evacuated the building and called the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, who contacted the bomb squad. Both the sheriff and state police secured the package, and students were permitted to return to the building beginning at 11:15 p.m., according to an MMA press release.
The matter is still under investigation.
