Area Democrats combine forces
Democrats from Bucksport, Castine, Penobscot, Orland and Verona Island are combining forces, according to a news release. Calling themselves the Western Hancock County Democrats (WHCD), their hope is that they can achieve more meeting with candidates as a group than by meeting separately in individual towns.
“It’s not realistic to expect candidates to meet with relatively small numbers,” said Kent Price, Orland town chairman. “Besides, socializing with fellow Democrats provides an insight into problems beyond our individual towns.”
Get to know the women and men who would like to represent you. The group plans an open meeting at MacLeod’s Restaurant in Bucksport from 4 to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 12. The program will feature short addresses by candidates Shenna Bellows for the U. S. Senate, Emily Cain and Troy Jackson for the 2nd Congressional District, and most local candidates for western Hancock County offices. In addition, those attending the WHCD meeting will qualify for door prizes, including books by prominent Democrats.
Hancock County Democratic Chairman John Knutson was pleased with the establishment of the WHCD. “Anytime Democrats get together is a good time,” he said.
