The grand opening for what owner Anne Kingman Page said is the only gallery in Maine “devoted just to photography” was held Sunday, May 25.
The gallery located at the corner of Rte. 15 and the Center District Cross Road, features the works of 14 photographers from the local area and around the state.
In an interview at the opening, the owner said the gallery is a mission that evolved from an extensive family background in photography and a desire to create a focus for the “many talented photographers in Maine.”
Her father took many photographs of the Island during the many decades he and his family summered on Deer Isle. Page has been working recently organizing the extensive photography collection of her late godmother who was a longtime photojournalist for Look Magazine.
The gallery, which is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday from Memorial Day through Columbus Day, will feature new works from time to time.
Page, who has been summering on the Island for 57 years and living year-round for two, said her gallery is “also a museum” where people are “welcome to experince the art work” without having to buy.
