Rain is the only winner this week for Deer Isle-Stonington High School
by Jack Scott
The weather has pushed back games for the baseball and softball teams and it looks like a pretty crowded schedule ahead. The only game that did get played was the boys baseball team who lost to Searsport 19-1 in a one sided game. We scored our run when Jordin Eaton singled and Pat Duddy got a hit to bring him home. We have some games coming up where we should match up with the teams and have a better chance for a win.
The weather is making the schedule pile up in the last two weeks of play. Both teams have only played five out of the 14 games scheduled. We have three double headers and three single games left. The girls at 2-3 are in 13th place out of 14 qualifiers. We can improve that position with a few wins in the next week as we have played fewer games than most all the other teams. This is not ideal, but we have to be ready to play whenever the weather allows and go from there.
The girls tennis team lost to George Stevens 5-0. In the singles, Allison Cormier lost 8-3, Megan Weed lost 8-2, and Sasha Zembrusky lost 8-6. In the doubles, Jordyn Judkins/Justine Rhys lost 8-2 and Jess Trainor/Alison Eaton lost 8-2.
The girls lost to Orono 5-0. In the singles, Allison Cormier lost 8-5, Sasha Zembrusky lost 8-0, and Jordyn Judkins lost 8-2. In the doubles, Justine Rhys/Jess Trainor lost 8-3 and Alison Eaton/Veronica Pezarus lost 8-1.
The boys tennis team lost to George Stevens 5-0. In the singles, Doug Heanssler lost 8-0, Andy Turner lost 8-4, and Matt Duddy lost 8-2. In the doubles, Nick Dunham/Paul Zoephal lost 8-2 and Cody Eaton/Justin Eaton lost 8-0.
The boys lost a close game to Orono 3-2. In the singles, Doug Heanssler lost 8-3, Andy Turner won 8-1, and Nick Dunham lost 8-2. In the doubles, Paul Zoephal/Justin Eaton won 8-5 and Cody Eaton/Gordon Richardson lost 8-4.
Both tennis teams are still in the playoff picture with four more games to go. The girls at 3-5 are in eighth place out of 12 qualifiers. The boys are 2-6 and are in 11th place out of 12 qualifiers. If the weather will give us a break, we can make up the games missed and we should move on to the playoffs. A few wins for either team will advance us further up into the standings.
