Castine to hold annual Memorial Day observance
by Faith DeAmbrose
On Monday, May 26, the town of Castine welcomes its citizens and others to its annual Memorial Day observance.
Those attending are asked to gather at the town cemetery on Court Street at 9:45 a.m. The parade, led by a flag bearer, moves into the cemetery at 10 a.m. along with the Castine town band.
Following an approximate half-hour of music and words, the procession moves to the town common at 10:30 where the Gettysburg Address is recited, “Star Spangled Banner” played, and a wreath laid at the base of the statue.
The procession then moves to the town dock where a wreath will be laid on the water to honor those who lost their lives at sea. Remarks will be given and music will be played.
