After four decades of employment with the Stonington-based company Billings Diesel and Marine, John Weed of Deer Isle is hanging up his caliper and micrometer and leaving the machine shop floor.

He won’t go quietly though—especially if his fellow workers have anything to say about it.

Weed will be the guest of honor in an all-afternoon BBQ on Friday, May 30, at the Moose Island location, and the public is invited to attend.

The BBQ will begin at noon and last throughout the day.
