Program at St. Francis to address Celtic spirituality
The Spiritual Life & Learning Center at St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church and the Reversing Falls Sanctuary will partner to offer a program focused on Celtic spirituality starting Wednesday, May 21. The discussions, which take place on Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at St. Francis by the Sea in Blue Hill, will run for six weeks and end June 25. Co-facilitators will be the Rev. Claudia Smith and the Rev. Gary Vencill.
The six-week session will focus on reading and discussing A New Harmony: The Spirit, the Earth and the Human Soul by internationally known Celtic theologian and author the Rev. Dr. John Philip Newell, according to a press release. Newell will be the featured speaker at the 2014 Downeast Spiritual Life Conference in Castine July 11 and 12.
The first meeting will be an overview of Celtic spirituality. Immediately following each meeting, there will be a noon service at the church using a Celtic-inspired liturgy developed by John Philip Newell. This program is free and open to all interested.
