Parker Ridge to host lecture on Acadia National Park
Parker Ridge Retirement Community in Blue Hill will host a lecture by Ronald Epp Thursday, April 3, at 3:30 p.m. Epp’s forthcoming book The Making of Acadia National Park is about conservationist George Bucknam Dorr (1853-1944), founder of the first national park east of the Mississippi. The lecture will recount historical associations between Dorr and park enthusiasts Beatrix Farrand, Edith Wharton, Charles W. Eliot, and John D. Rockefeller Jr.
Epp is a historian whose biography of Dorr is part of the centennial celebrations (2016) of the beginnings of the park and the National Park Service. Parker Ridge is located in Blue Hill at 63 Parker Ridge Lane; RSVP by calling 374-5789.
