Blue Hill farm awarded grant to support local food pantry
Maine Farmland Trust awarded Misty Morning Farm in Blue Hill a 2014 Community Food Grant, according to a news release. This grant award is for a project that can help meet a larger scale community food need that will impact a significantly large number of people in the community.
Misty Morning will grow and deliver approximately 100 pounds of fresh, local green produce weekly to the Tree of Life food pantry through 2015. Misty Morning utilizes vertical farming techniques in conjunction with aquaponics in their passive solar greenhouse to maximize crop yields.
Misty Morning hopes to enlarge the scope and scale of offerings for 2015 and is currently looking for a separate, dedicated parcel of land to fully develop a community farming project.
