Special Penobscot town meeting called to move funds for school, transfer station

The town of Penobscot has called a special town meeting on Tuesday, June 10, at 7 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting, according to town clerk Mary Ellen Gross, is to transfer funds across line items in the school budget to cover unanticipated shortfalls as well as to allocate additional funds for needs at the transfer station.

To cover shortfalls in the school budget, voters will be asked to transfer $18,000 from Regular Instruction to Student Transportation Services; $7,000 from Regular Instruction, $5,000 from Student and Staff Support Services and $6,000 from System Administration to Special Education.

On the municipal side, voters will be asked to “expend money from the transfer station account and other sources for infrastructure improvements at the transfer station, specifically for one stationary compactor and related items, sums not to exceed $40,000.” The selectmen will also ask voters to “appropriate from surplus a sum not to exceed $25,000 to be applied to the transfer station account as needed.”

The meeting will be held at the town hall.
