Experience Blue Hill
Local fundraiser shows best of area offerings

by Faith DeAmbrose

When the Blue Hill Historical Society was trying to come up with a new and interesting fundraising idea to help support its annual programs and activities, they really had to look no further than their own backyard.

Experience Blue Hill, a 12-experience raffle highlighting the food, places and artists of Blue Hill, was born as a way to feature the town’s offerings but also to give the historical society a way to share some of the area’s history. Did you know that Yanni’s Pizza Place used to be an automotive store and then a laundromat? Or that The Blue Hill Wine Shop was once the private home of Alley Osgood? These and many more tidbits of information will be made available as a display of items moves across the town with historical society volunteers.

From now until early August, volunteers from BHHS will be at different locations selling tickets and sharing history. A static display of the prizes will be available for viewing at Bar Harbor Bank & Trust throughout July.

A ticket purchase gives you a chance of winning an “experience,” such as a boat tour of Blue Hill Bay and a Blue Hill Heritage Trust print; a one-night stay at The Blue Hill Inn and two tickets to a New Surry Theatre show at the town hall; a two night stay at Barncastle and two tickets to Kneisel Hall, as well as many more restaurant and merchandise offerings from area businesses. All total, there are 12 packages of prizes consisting of approximately 50 items.

Winners need not decide which of the 12 prize packages they want as they will be drawn at random at 1 p.m. on August 8 during a meeting of the Blue Hill Selectmen.

Tickets are available at The Meadow, Mainescape and SaraSara’s. Information will also be posted to BHHS’s Facebook page throughout the summer.
