Caterpillar Hill Initiative sets fundraising goal

The Caterpillar Hill Initiative has set a 2014 fund raising goal of $125,000 in order to secure the rights to the Caterpillar Hill site and build the Avalonia Amphitheater, the organization announced in a press release.

The CHI group has been offered an owner-financed purchase arrangement which will allow the group to secure rights to the top 10 acres of the Ladd property in Sedgwick as it meets its initial funding goal for 2014.

Dylan Howard, the CHI director, said: “Caterpillar Hill is a special piece of land on the Maine Coast with a spectacular and rare earth view. We are grateful to have the opportunity to secure and steward the land and build the important Amphitheater that will become the outdoor classroom for programs in the arts, education and nature-connections.”

A community crowd-funding campaign has been launched on named “Saving Caterpillar Hill,” which has a complete display of the site, the plans, and a video. A major effort is also being launched in the community to raise awareness for the effort, build a network of friends of the project and help reach the funding goal.

The centerpiece for the fund drive is the stage surface of the Amphitheater which is an art installation made from 6,000 tiles. The stage will be nestled into the contour of the land and each of its tiles can be personalized by contributors as a lasting record of their support. A personal tile will be awarded for a contribution. The program encourages a broad base of single contributions and opportunities for families, groups or organizations to purchase larger tiles.

Information can be found at or—2/x/321965. Contributions can be made directly on the indiegogo, Saving Caterpillar Hill website or mailed to Caterpillar Hill Initiative, 328 Caterpillar Hill Rd., Sedgwick 04676. Caterpillar Hill Initiative is a registered 501(c)3 organization.
