The George Stevens Academy boys and girls basketball teams stayed game-on just before and during the holiday break. The boys began with a win against Deer-Isle Stonington on December 19, followed by losses to Mount Desert Island and a tight 62-58 to Central. Seniors Philip Shaheen and Brett Ingraham and junior Kelsey Allen are point leaders, with help from junior Finn Davis-Batt and sophomore Nick Szwez.

They ended the week with a 60-43 win against Bucksport on December 30 and are 3-4 for the season. With the past string of games all played on home court, they take it on the road in January, after first hosting Orono on January 3.

Despite a 35-19 win against Central on December 28, the girls are 1-5 for the season, following losses at Searsport, Mount Desert Island, Piscataquis and Orono, and to Washington Academy at home. Freshman Morgan Dauk leads the team on points and senior Jennifer McKenney is laying claim to net rebounds. With 11 games left to play, there’s plenty of time for the girls to rally. They travel to Bucksport on January 2 and Orono on January 4.
