Jordan Fernald Funeral Home to move downtown

Jordan Fernald Funeral Home on the move

The Jordan Fernald Funeral Home in Blue Hill, Maine, will soon call this building home. According to co-owner Lauri Fernald, the company will sell its South Street location in 2014 and move to the approximately 2,000 square foot space once occupied by the Partridge Drugstore.

Over the course of the past week, conversation has swirled around Blue Hill as to the future of the Jordan Fernald Funeral Home. Movement inside the former New Cargoes building only intensified that chatter.

The future, according to business co-owner Lauri Fernald, will look like the past, but in a new location.

The funeral home will move its operations from its South Street location to the rear portion of the former New Cargoes (Partridge Drug store) building at 49 Main Street in the heart of the village. A space that, at close to 2,000 square feet, is more in line with the needs of the business, said Fernald in an April 1 telephone interview. The entrance to the funeral home will be on the side of the building where there is a handicapped ramp, she said. The business will not occupy the front of the former retail space.

The funeral home owns the building on South Street where it currently operates and will soon put that building up for sale, said Fernald.

“We still want to be part of the community but people are changing the level of service they need,” she said, adding that all the services the company provides—funeral, memorial, cremation and prearranged funeral planning—will continue in the new location.
