Ethan Shepard couldn’t repeat the magic of his great golf round at the PVC title, but still had a very respectable 87 for an 18th place finish in the State Individual Golf Tournament. You have to take into consideration that while all the other players have been golfing all fall, Ethan has been stopping shots as the goalie on the soccer team. He has done a superb job as goalie and I don’t think we would have been as successful without him there.

The girls soccer team lost to George Stevens 4-1. We actually scored first about halfway through the first half on a goal by Morgan Shepard assisted by Allyson Eaton. Unfortunately, GSA scored two goals before the half and we trailed 2-1. Despite very even play in the second half, GSA scored 2 more goals and we couldn’t get one in the net.

Coach Sarah Ebel felt the big difference was GSA’s ability to get quality chances off restarts. They scored two goals off corner kicks and one off a direct kick. If there is a lesson to be learned, it is to limit these chances when our opponents are so good with this advantage. Goalie Logan Eaton saved 9 of GSA’s 13 shots and GSA saved 11 of our 12 shots showing that we played with them overall.

The girls lost 3-1 to Narraguagus on October 22, the last day for regular games. With only one win and one tie, we won’t be going to the playoffs, but this team has improved so much since the beginning of the season with many players who hadn’t played before. There were several games that could have gone our way, but we couldn’t catch a break. We really worked to learn the fundamentals very well and this will bode well for next year.

The boys soccer team has been practicing and getting ready for a preliminary playoff game. In the last few days, we have slipped to 13th place as other teams have traded wins. As it stands on Tuesday morning, we would travel to play #4 Jonesport on next Saturday. As there are a few games left to play Tuesday, this is not the final standings and it is possible that Shead might move up to #4. Either way, we would not be traveling up to the County for our first game.

If we do play Jonesport, we know them well and beat them 3-2 and lost to them 3-2. We know we can play with them and if we play our game, we can beat them. If we can carry our momentum from the end of the season forward, we should find success. Other than Bangor Christian and possibly # 1 Easton, this tournament is wide open.
