Lacy Greenlaw Chess-a-Thon set for November 7

The 2013 Lacy Greenlaw Chess-a-Thon will be held Thursday, November 7, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary School cafeteria. Besides remembering and honoring the memory of Lacy who participated in many chess-a-thons (and who still holds the record for food consumed during a chess-a-thon), organizers are trying to raise money for a possible trip to the Nationals if Deer Isle-Stonington chess teams win a state title in the K-6, K-8 or high school divisions.

It is hoped that individual chess players can raise a minimum of $50 through pledges while a family with more than one chess player will try to raise at least $75. Most importantly, organizers say, is that “we are there to have fun, play a lot of chess, and stay up all night!”
