To kick off a summer of active Castine Class racing, the J Heron bested a fleet of eight boats to win the annual Robinson Cup Fourth of July race. The J Heron was skippered by Jamie Bicks, with Emily and Olivia Bicks crewing. The Robinson Cup is awarded in memory of Barclay Robinson, who together with David Austin, started the Castine Class fleet in 1951. Donald Austin sailed the Fanny G to a second place finish, ahead of the Westwind skippered by Brooke Parish.

The fleet raced out the harbor under clear skies and a steady, moderate southwest breeze. A collision between the Caroline B sailed by Chip Terry and Southern Star sailed by Emerson Bruns near the Castine harbor bell marred a perfect day of racing. Both boats had to withdraw.

After hasty repair of her port rail and deck, the Caroline B, again sailed by Chip Terry, came back to the line to take the July 7th race, beating the J Heron, skippered by Emily Bicks, by one minute. The Fanny G, sailed by Donald Austin, took third.
