George Stevens Academy to host Jazz Festival

For the second consecutive year, George Stevens Academy will host the annual District VI Jazz Festival, according to a news release from the school. The Festival will take place on Wednesday, February 27, from 2 until 8 p.m. (the snow date is Thursday, February 28).

GSA’s Jazz Band and four combos, as well as jazz bands and combos from Ellsworth High School, Mount Desert Island High School, Deer Isle-Stonington High School, Brewer High School, Calais High School, Shead High School, Washington Academy and Bucksport High School will perform. Altogether, 19 ensembles will play in two venues at GSA—the Esther Wood Room (music room) and the cafeteria.

There will be a café serving a variety of foods prepared by Chef Frank Bianco. Food may be purchased separately, or an entrée, dessert, and punch may be bought for a set price.

There is a modest admission fee to the Festival.

“We’re thrilled to be hosting the festival once again, and plans are well under way for a smooth, cool jazz fest,” said Steve Orlofsky, GSA’s Director of Instrumental Music. “It’s going to be an exciting day of terrific music and fun.”

The performance schedule, map, and café menu are posted on the GSA website at georgestevensacademy.org/jazzfestival2013. Direct questions to Steve Orlofsky at 374-2808 or s.orlofsky@georgestevens.info.href="s.orlofsky@georgestevens.info">s.orlofsky@georgestevens.info. />
