Sponsor families wanted for MMA students

Maine Maritime Academy is seeking local families interested in serving as a sponsor to an out-of-state freshman student for the upcoming academic year. The Sponsor Program was created to increase the interaction between MMA students and Castine townspeople on a personal level. Students can enjoy a “home away from home” and learn about the people and town of Castine. Sponsors get to know a student and see the academy through a student’s eyes. The sponsor relationships have often developed into strong connections between the student and sponsors that last beyond the freshman year, according to a press release.

Sample activities hosted by the sponsor might include dinner invitations, hiking or boating excursions, rides to church, shopping or the airport, or simply an afternoon or evening in a home.

Families interested in serving as a sponsor can contact Lori Dodge at MMA at 326-4772 or lori.dodge@mma.edu and she will send a sponsor application and answer questions. Applications are also available at the town office or on the MMA website at mainemaritime.edu/college-relations/pressreleases/701-mma-sponsor-families-wanted. Please submit applications by September 10. The Sponsor Program is coordinated by the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
