Area schools receive community health grants
Healthy Acadia and its partners have awarded Community Health Grants to 22 schools in Hancock and Washington counties, including Brooklin School, Sedgwick Elementary School, and Penobscot Community School, according to a press release.
The Brooklin and Sedgwick schools received Farm to School grants to implement projects that support healthy eating and nutrition. Brooklin School will revive a school garden on its campus, and Sedgwick School will bolster its growing school garden program.
Penobscot Community School received a Safe Routes to School/ Access to Exercise grant. The School will use the grant to expand and improve upon its Penobscot Bike Safety Rodeo, a program to teach bike safety and proper riding practices to students.
Additionally, School Union 76 received a grant to implement Health Education initiatives, and School Union 93 received a grant to implement Healthy and Safe School Environment initiatives.
