Deer Isle Hostel continues summer tradition
Throughout the fifth summer of operating the only hostel on the coast of Maine, the Deer Isle Hostel will host a number of different lectures, workshops and social events, according to a press release.
Among other things, the owners will demonstrate splitting granite, show their gardens, have live music and a dinner event with local farmers being the cooks. The educational program is intended to share the everyday life practices that are used at the Homestead year-round—sustainable, sensible techniques for a self reliant and rich life. The local community is welcome, and encouraged to participate. For more information, visit deerislehostel.com or call 348-2308.
On April 17, the hostel will present The gardens at Deer Isle Hostel, a slide show and talk by Anneli Carter–Sundqvist about the organic vegetable gardens she established from scratch and maintains using local resources to grow a year-round supply of food. Hosted by the Evergreen Garden Club, the event starts at 4 p.m. at the Deer Isle Town Hall. Light refreshments will be served.
