Blue Hill church to host Japanese Koto music
The Japanese koto and shamisen will be heard at the Sunday, August 19, 10 a.m. worship service of the First Congregational Church. The duo of Yoko Reikano Kimura, koto, shamisen and voice, and her husband Hikaru Tamaki, cello, will perform a piece at the beginning of the worship service. They will also conduct a workshop for children on Japanese music during the worship service.
Musician Kimura has performed concerts around the world. Tamaki is principal cellist of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic in Indiana.
Their workshop is part of an ongoing program of activities for elementary-school-aged children that happens each summer Sunday during the worship service at the First Congregational Church. Child care is available for younger children.
