Penobscot Bay Press to sponsor annual golf tournament
The annual Penobscot Bay Press golf tournament will be held Sunday, August 26, at the Island Country Club in Sunset on Deer Isle. Start times will begin at 7:30 a.m. The format is 18 holes, four-member team mixed scramble, and 70 percent handicap.
The field is open to male and female amateur golfers and who, if under the age of 15, can demonstrate the ability to complete the par 62 course in fewer than 85 strokes by playing a qualifying round prior to the tournament.
Participants must also be residents of Blue Hill, Brooklin, Brooksville, Castine, Deer Isle, Isle au Haut, Penobscot, Sedgwick, Stonington or Surry. If summer residents, they must be resident here for at least two weeks.
Entrants belonging to the Maine State Golf Association must show their index numbers or be rated under the Calloway System.
The perpetual Penobscot Bay Press Trophy will be inscribed with low net and low gross team winners. Prizes will be awarded to first place low net and low gross team scrambles players. Closest to the pin prizes will be given to men on the 13th hole and women on the 15th hole. Each finisher will receive a Penobscot Bay Press Open logo golf ball.
In case of a tie for low gross and low net, the winner will be determined by a sudden death two-hole playoff. All other ties will be by a card playoff. The final arbiter of all rules in the tournament is the Tournament Committee of the Island Country Club.
Fees are charged. For more information and to enter, call the Island Country Club at 348-2379. Entries must be received before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22. Check in 15 minutes before starting time.
