Maine Maritime Academy’s women’s basketball program raised three jerseys onto the Wall of Honor in Margaret Chase Smith Gymnasium on January 15, according to a press release.

Shelley Gott-Miles, Julia Knights, and Alyssa Burns—all 2007 graduates—were on hand to see their jerseys honored in this way. The three are generally credited with putting MMA women’s basketball “on the map.”

Gott-Miles ended her basketball career as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1600 total points. The biggest shot of her career was a three-pointer at the buzzer to defeat Bowdoin College, the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, and break its 76 home-game winning streak.

Knights ended her basketball career with a total of 1,570 points, 1,003 rebounds, 169 blocks and 240 assists. She was second all-time in scoring and the only female to ever reach 1,000 rebounds the only female to ever reach 1,000 rebounds, and the program leader in blocks.

Burns only played at MMA for three years, after spending a year at American International College. She was a three-time North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, an All-Maine selection twice, and in her senior year was selected to the D3hoops all-region team. Burns scored 1,463 points in three years, grabbed 717 rebounds and holds the school record for steals in a career with 253.
