Dowstudio features Maine artists
Dowstudio, on Dow Road in Deer Isle, celebrates Maine artists from around the state. Their studios range from Bethel to Portland, from Rockland to Deer Isle and hold as much variation in form and process as their locations. Whether you have come to Dowstudio to enjoy Rebecca Verrill’s highly decorated and joyful pots or the quiet beauty of Ingrid Bathe’s pinched porcelain and Autumn Cipala’s pristine forms, you will find many bowls, serving trays, vases and pitchers to choose from, including Tyler Gulden’s stoneware chowder bowls and Siem Vandervan’s wood fired work. Austin Smith rounds out the collection with his nautical themes on cups on his forms. Joshua Rysted is new to Dowstudio with his solid stoneware, no nonsense function,a s well as Jeff Lipton and his fanciful images. The exhibition includes nine Maine studio artists in one location and 71 others from across the county. Dowstudio September hours: Thursday, Friday and Saturday noon to 5 p.m. or by chance or appointment. For information, visit dowstudiodeerisle.com or call 348-6498.
