Opening Day

The Deer Isle-Stonington Historical Society opened its doors to the public for the summer season on June 15. The society showed off its new exhibits featuring vintage wedding dresses and a prominent military display featuring information and artifacts from the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I, Korean War, and Vietnam.

Wedding dress

Wedding dress

The wedding dress of Catherine Horton who married Joseph Fifield in 1870. Horton, the sister of then-Stonington-resident Mary Barbour, came from Nova Scotia on a steamship and while disembarking met Fifield. The two had six children.
