Penobscot Bay Press is a family-owned news and community information services provider, based in Stonington, Maine, with a second office in Blue Hill, Maine, with a local focus on our communities. We have about 20 full- and part-time employees, publishing three paid weekly newspapers—Island Ad-Vantages, The Weekly Packet, and Castine Patriot, along with app versions of each and digital subscriptions available. We publish the annual Bay Community Register, the go-to area guide and phone directory for East Penobscot Bay, four Seasonal Guides for visitors to the area, and numerous special sections. Penobscot Bay Press has a growing book division. We are currently broadening our publishing realm.


An immediate full-time, year-round opening for a Sales Representative based in our Blue Hill office, maintaining current core accounts in Blue Hill, Ellsworth, Brooksville, Brooklin and Surry, with an eagerness and willingness to reach into other surrounding territories.

Responsibilities include: growing advertising sales for our print and web products, servicing existing accounts, and developing new accounts and new approaches. The successful applicant will have an eagerness to learn, and a professional assertiveness that is driven by excellent interpersonal skills, and creative and intuitive sales ideas. Additional key responsibilities include working with the Director of Marketing in developing sales strategies and the development and successful achievement of weekly and long-term sales goals.

Sales experience preferred, but will consider suitable candidates if other skills are met. Must have: good people and communication skills, be able to work in a team, consider and develop new sales ideas including online strategies, and be adaptable to technology changes. Comfort with current computer and web tools is essential, as is strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

The Office Manager position is based in Stonington, working Monday through Thursday. The job will focus on administrative duties such as assisting walk-in customers, answering phones, and supporting various processes as part of the cycles of publishing news and information on print and digital platforms. The position also entails administrative assistance for the Sales and Marketing Director, as well as co-management of a web-based coming events platform, which requires administrative and organizational skills, as well as marketing abilities.

The ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic, customer relations experience, attention to detail, be a team player and multi-tasker, and handle the challenges and pressure inherent to a deadline-driven occupation. Experience with Adobe InDesign is highly desirable. Start in early April. Will train. Competitive compensation package with benefits.

This person, based in our Stonington office, will split their time between news reporting and being a key member of the team leading the conceptualization, creation and execution of Penobscot Bay Press’s web, mobile app and social media content. Applicant must be comfortable with all forms of social media, be able to take direction, and collaborate with others to repurpose content as needed across multiple platforms.

Being able to ask tough questions, work with a very high degree of independence and make exceptional contributions to the presentation of journalism is essential.
