News Feature
The staff at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital has been working for months to plan for new technology called Computerized Provider Order Entry. According to a press release, this technology allows doctors and family nurse practitioners to enter detailed instructions directly into the electronic health records of hospitalized patients. The new order helps doctors and family nurse practitioners alleviate problems associated with handwritten information, the release said, and allows clinical data to be shared with other authorized caregivers instantaneously. This is important when a patient must be transferred to another healthcare facility, such as Eastern Maine Medical Center. The new type of order entry also reduces the likelihood of duplicative testing. A goal of the hospital’s most recent investment in technology is to provide a completely electronic medical records system for all patients, regardless of where they are being treated. |
