OHA plans funny Valentines

Local actors and playwrights will serve up short, romantic dramas to humor the heart on Tuesday, February 14, at 7 p.m at the Opera House.

The staged readings will feature scripts written especially for Valentine’s Day. Authors will include Dan Hadley, Nancy Hodermarsky, Elizabeth Guffey and Mike Wolf. Bob Burke will direct local actors reading 17 different characters. Tickets will be for sale at the door.

According to a press release, the presentation follows a series of master classes for local playwrights taught by John Cariani, whose plays are Almost, Maine and Last Gas. The most recent master class took place the first week of January.

Everyone, regardless of experience, is encouraged to participate in the “Our Own” readings, which require only 15 hours of rehearsal time and no memorization. The “Our Own” series stages everything, from classic works such as Thornton Wilder’s Our Town to current documentary plays such as The Exonerated and new works by new and established playwrights.
